Yoho National Park
While staying in Golden, British Columbia we took day trips to several different Canadian Parks, one of those was Yoho National Park. Yoho is located about halfway between Golden, BC and Lake Louise in Banff.
Hiking: Emerald Lake Loop
We did a few hikes in Yoho, the first one was the Emerald Lake Loop, it was 3.55 miles and 427 feet elevation change. We went clockwise and the kids loved the first half of this hike. On the first half you can almost always see the lake, and there are several informational plaques. Once you go past the bridge, it’s all forest for the second half. We visited in July, and the section through the forest was very muddy, which slowed us down quite a bit. If we were to do this again, we would get to the bridge and then turn around and enjoy the lake views again on the way back.
Hiking: Takakkaw Falls Trail
The second hike we did was Takakkaw Falls Trail, it was only 1.08 miles and 131 feet in elevation change. This is 100% worth the stop. It is a big payoff for such a short walk. You can get close enough to the falls that you could get very wet, so don’t forget to bring a rainproof jacket! This one will be crowded, so if you’re hoping for some great pictures, you may want to go early. Also, don’t forget to stop and take a picture at the Canadian Park red chairs!
